Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red is the First Album of 2021 to Debut at No.1 and His First No.1 Debut on the Billboard
After releasing his debut album Die Lit in May 2018, fans and critics alike were excited to hear more from the Atlanta rapper. Sure enough, that’s what they got! Playboi Carti released the highly anticipated second studio album Whole Lotta Red on Christmas Day under Interscope Records and ASAP Rocky‘s label AWGE Label. The 24 track album was recorded between 2018-2020, including collaborations with Kid Cudi and Future. Although the album was met with favorable reviews, most of his fans were not pleased with the album. With that being said, people may ask themselves what makes this album great. For the fans who wonder, let’s break it down.
The Collaborations
Although Carti is successful as a solo rapper, collaborations are always fun to listen to. As previously mentioned, Kid Cudi and Future make appearances in the album. However, the collaboration with Kanye West is the song that sticks out the most. Both artists bring their own unique style to their track “Go2DaMoon” However, once anyone hears the featured lyric “YEEZY’s in the stock room, that’s the name, make the stock boom,” they will know that Kanye West is found somewhere within the song.
The Style
For those who may not have known Carti before mainstream success in 2017, he grew in rankings due to his cult following and experimental music style. Known for his lyric mumbling, mixing genres, and the love he gives for his fans, Carti has continued to stay true to himself, which is likely one of the reasons why critics praised this album. Although his fans didn’t find this album to be their favorite, they likely appreciated him not pretending to be anyone else but himself throughout the album.
After expressing his happiness on the number one album over social media, Playboi Carti continues to make music and will likely release a third studio album on an unknown date. Until then, Whole Lotta Red is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music, as well as videos featured on WavWax!
