The song is a reworking of Scott-Heron’s classic spoken-word piece “New York Is Killing Me,” with Jay-Z adding his own verses about the struggles and triumphs of growing up from his hit single “New-York”. The track was produced by Jay-Z and debuted during a rare public performance on April 14, 2023, at an event sponsored by the Louis Vuitton Foundation and Tiffany & Co in Paris.
